You may or may not be aware of Tuesdays announcement regarding changes in New Zealand’s employment leave legislation. There are a number of changes listed, including but not limited to:
- How sick and annual leave is accrued – based on contracted hours
- How leave is paid – based on standard rate instead of a 12 month average rate (where required)
- Leave calculations paid on extra hours worked at the time
- When leave is/is not accrued (unpaid leave, ACC leave & Parental leave)
- Leave payments for casual employees
For more information on this Reform you can click here to view details offered by MBIE or see the key changes summarised in this link.
It is however really important to note that the current system remains in place as this new Legislation will not come in to play for 24 months. This gives time for softwares to be updated and Employers to understand the changes.
