Payments to IRD can be made in a number of ways. The most common methods include:
- Internet Banking – use the “pay tax” function through internet banking and enter the IRD number, tax type and period in the relevant fields
- Credit and Debit Card – this can be done via the IRD website, through myIR or over the phone
- Direct Debit Payment – these can be set up through myIR
- At Westpac – you can pay by cash or EFTPOS at any Westpac branch. A barcode is required to do this which can be found on some paper returns or can be generated on the IRD website (https://www.ird.govt.nz/managing-my-tax/make-a-payment/ways-of-paying/paying-at-westpac)
For more information on the different payment options, please visit the IRD website: https://www.ird.govt.nz/managing-my-tax/make-a-payment/ways-of-paying/
Please note that from 1st March 2020, IRD have stopped accepting cheques.
If paying through myIR, for taxes that we normally assist with, please refer to our payment advice for the amount due. Note that this often differs from what appears in myIR due to transfers we have requested the IRD action and can take up to 10 weeks to be completed.
Please contact your client manager if you are having difficulty paying by any of these methods, would like help setting up direct debit payments in myIR or would like help generating a barcode.
